France’s vineyard area is shrinking. After two uprooting programmes, Bordeaux is the smallest it has been since 1985. The Languedoc is pulling up 60,000-100,000 hectares - an area over double the entire size of Champagne - under the same nationally-organised programme. Is Champagne immune?

No…and yes. It seems simple; we drink less, we need fewer viney…
